Protective, Not Always True

A part’s story can be valid—even once true—and still no longer describe the present.

Every part of us carries a story.

And often, those stories get louder in moments of perceived threat—when we shift from calm into activation in our bodies, and our protective parts jump in to rescue.

Our protectors are brilliant like that. They don’t just react—they author meaning.

They feel the trigger and move fast. They might say things like:

“See, I knew I shouldn’t have trusted.”
“This always happens to me.”
“I have to be more careful next time.”
“I can’t let this happen again.”

…etc.

And honestly, those stories make sense. They are valid—though not always rational.

They were intelligent, adaptive responses to real experiences at one time.

But—

A story can be valid—even true at ONE time—but not true anymore.

It can live in you, feel real, shape your reactions—and still be outdated, distorted, or no longer aligned with your present reality.

And when you really listen, you can feel it—that part isn’t lying. It’s remembering. It’s protecting. It’s doing its job… but it might also be working too hard.

Because it’s time-stamped. Written in a moment that may no longer be now.

So we live inside these narratives—not because they’re accurate, but because they once kept us safe.

And over time, they quietly become the lens we see everything through.

✨ What if healing isn’t about getting rid of these parts… but gently questioning the stories they carry?

Not with force. Not with judgment. But with curiosity.

“When did you pick up this story?”
“Is it still true?”
“Is this always true?”
“What else might be possible?”

Because when you create even a little space between you and the story… you start to remember:

You are not the narrative. You are the one listening to it.

And from that place, something soft but powerful happens—you can thank the protector, validate its story… and choose a different truth.

One rooted not just in survival—but in who you are now. 🧡
